USA v Honduras Tonight!

Tonight is the last of the World Cup Qualifiers for the US until September and you know your girl will be watching! Here is my recommended way to watch:

  • Grab your friends--preferably the ones who like watching soccer, but really any will do
  • Get and finish a pitcher of margaritas--make sure they're good, this is your pregame (and it doesn't have to be at the same bar you will use to watch the game)
  • Go to a soccer bar to watch the game--you can find the closest official US Soccer bar here, and be sure to have some beers to keep the fun going (I swear I'm not an alcoholic)
This plan has been foolproof for each of the qualifiers I've watched so far and we're undefeated! So maybe I'm a bit superstitious but I'm gonna keep on keeping on.

Overall, besides the ugly loss to Belgium (4-2), the US is on a roll. We're atop our group, a game in hand against Mexico (who has been underwhelming to say the least), and our players look like they are finally all on the same page. And now we get a chance to avenge our only hex loss so far. The road to Brazil has never looked smoother.

Countdown to College Football

78 days. That's how long we still have to wait.

In my daily ESPN review yesterday I read Phil Steele's article about his preseason top 5. He took a different take and rated teams based upon where he thinks they will end up at the end of the season. Unsurprisingly he has Alabama as his pick for the national champion--and we all know this would make me oh so very happy.

So my bias for Alabama aside, let's look at the remaining members of his top 5.

2. Ohio State
Yes, they had an undefeated season last year--with no expectations--in what was a wholly unimpressive year for the Big Ten. Do I think they could run the table again? Very possibly. Urban Meyer stockpiles talent and develops players and I think this will help Ohio State but I also think that Michigan could be a surprise team and could knock Ohio State out. This season they actually have something to play for, they have expectations and that is not an easy burden to bear.

3. Florida State
I just don't know that I can see FSU ending this high at the end of the season. Plain and simple, they have the talent but they have completely underwhelmed season after season. Prove me wrong, Jimbo, but that's Florida State's MO right now. But hey, maybe that sharp shooter named Jameis Winston can provide the thunder and finishing ability that they need.

4. Texas
Back in the day (prior to 2009) Texas was always a safe bet. Mack Brown is another fantastic recruiter and Texas has such brand power that the school basically sucks in high rated recruits. But the question is... does Mack Brown still have what it takes to take the Longhorns to the championship? I read an article the other day that Brown would have retired after 2009 had his Longhorns managed to beat Alabama in the championship (and we all know what Marcell Dareus had to say about that)--I think he is still waiting for that magic moment, but I don't think it will come. I think Texas will have another underwhelming year.

5. Oregon
If there is one team in NCAA football that scares me as an Alabama fan, it's Oregon. Oregon is quick, they are fast, and yes, they no longer have Chip Kelly but man do they have some fantastic athletes. It will be interesting to see how things may change under new coach Mark Helfrich but I think Oregon will still have success and could very well be one of the last teams standing and in the running for the national championship.

Cheryl's 11 Hottest Athletes in Sports

This post is inspired by a recent BuzzFeed article I read. Basically, upon reviewing this I felt like there were too many people left out and the list could have been done wayyy better. And as a straight female, who better to write on this subject? So I give you... Cheryl's 11 Hottest Athletes in Sports. Enjoy.

I'll begin with the soccer players and then move on. There are honestly too many to choose from in the soccer category--I could create this entire list with just soccer players. If you disagree, you need to watch more futbol.

Mat Hummels: He looks like Matt Bomer, but no, he's Mat Hummels. He's a fantastic player for Borussia Dortmund and was instrumental in the success they've seen this past year. AND he's tall--which is a very important quality for me since I'm 5'12.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Here is where I completely agree with the straight man's assessment. And this will probably be the only repeat athlete. This Portuguese man is beautiful. He's beyond rich. And he's one of the best (if not the best) soccer players in the world. He wins at life.

Holger Badstuber: Two dark haired soccer beauties so now I bring you a blonde one. What's not to like about Holger? Okay, maybe his last name isn't as fantastic as his looks but I find that I don't really care. He could put a ring on it.

Grady Sizemore: I could just melt in those brown eyes. I actually think I just got lost in them. This boy is blessed, y'all. And he can hit it.

Cole Hamels: He cut that hair and BOY does it suit him. It's a shame that he's already taken. That's one lucky lady.

Feliciano Lopez: A little older than some of the others but, at 31, he is still stunning. He even has better hair than me. I just want to love you, too, Feliciano.

Novak Djokovic: He's knocked both Nadal and Federer out of the #1 spot but is still known as the bad boy. But heck, that only makes him hotter! I love watching this man play and just wish he did it more often without his shirt on.

Rob Gronkowski: This guy may not be traditionally beautiful, but did you see the picture below from ESPN's the body issue? I rest my case. And I think I speak for both male and females in that I would love to party with this guy. He brings the fun. And he can pay the hospital bill if it gets a little out of hand.

Blake Griffin: He's a slam dunk. And he seems like he's hilarious to boot. And he was born only a handful of days before me. It's fate.

Adam Scott: Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oy Oy Oy. Does anything else really need to be said. I'm pretty sure all of the women who watched the Masters this past year were mainly watching because of this beautiful man. I definitely wouldn't refuse that green jacket if it was a little chilly outside.

Kasey Kahne: I'll be the first to admit that I don't really enjoy Nascar. But let me tell you, if more of them looked like Kasey I might give it a second thought! Those blue eyes... Hubba hubba.

Honorable mentions: Xabi Alonso, Tom Brady, Zack Cozart, Chris Paul, (blonde) Fernando Torres

A girl who loves sports

I know, it's like an oxymoron right? Well, it's true. I am a GIRL who LOVES SPORTS. I'd like to say that there a tons of others just like me, but then I'd be lying. We're a rare breed. I mean, I know there are tons of girls who like a sport or two but how many actually like pretty much all of them? Yeah, not a lot.

Which has lead me to create this blog. Because I have thoughts, lots of them, and most of the time they're about sports. So I figured, why not share these genius thoughts from my female perspective? And there you have it. Blog. Created.

Hopefully you'll enjoy my ramblings, see that I really do know what I'm talking about, and maybe turn into a sports lover yourself. I was always told nothing is impossible. And that's Adidas' slogan, so there.
